INBETWEEN, 2024, 130×300 cm, coal ink, cotton – threads partially loosened
This work addresses the relationship between connectedness and vulnerability in relation to past generations. It centres on the question of the extent to which individual identity and inner freedom can be transformed by coming to terms with the legacy of one’s ancestors. In the first step, the fabric was dyed with self-made charcoal ink. The textile fabric was then successively unravelled by removing the fabric thread by thread – a deliberately decelerated, meditative process that requires a deep anchoring in the present moment. This process not only reflects the interplay between materiality and transience, but also points to the possibility of an inner transformation through a conscious examination of the past, present and future.
